The Screen Savers Returns! 0

Jun29

This is probably old news, but the guys from one of my old favorite TV shows (which was taken off the air when G4 merged with TechTV) The Screen Savers is back! They are creating a podcast called This Week in Tech (or TWiT for short). I actually found it through iTunes. The latest version 4.9 includes podcast support.

Welcome back!

Mandie and I have been stressed over our job situation. Our company is having difficulties lately. Because they can’t afford to pay the premiums for our group health insurance, they have decided to cancel the policy after this month.(Yeah, nice of them to give us less than a month’s notice!) Anyhow we’ve been figuring out what to do about that. Mandie’s looking for another job. I’ll stick around as long as I can. I’ve been spending alot of time building up my investments, if something happens to my job, I will at least have something else to help me pay the bills.

Health Insurance 0

Arghhh!!! Image The company we work for has decided that they are no longer going to provide a group health insurance plan. So now we must look for individual plans, which is becoming a serious pain in the ass! It’s even more crucial for Amanda due to her pre-existing conditions. The state of Florida has provisions that will guarantee her coverage, but it won’t be cheap. Basically she can’t continue to afford to work at this company (Yes, she is actively looking for other employment Image). I have a problem with this whole situation as well, as part of my employment agreement was that they pay for my health insurance. There’s been no mention of how they are going to compensate me for this. It’s also not helping the company in any way, as people are realizing they will need to spend $200-500/mo for an individual plan (especially the smokers), they’re starting to think about looking for another job, and not giving a damn about the job they do now.

This does however give me an opportunity to take advantage of the new HSA plans available. It looks like I might sign up with Humana (I think that’s who Amanda might get as well). Right now I’m researching the benefits of having the HSA (Health Savings Account) with Humana (who uses Chase to manage the account) vs using another account holder like HSA Bank or Sterling HSA. This is not something I’m having fun researching. Image

Grilled Pizza Gone Wrong

This Memorial Day we decided to stay at home and relax a bit. We attempted to cook pizza on the grill. The first time we did this it came out pretty well. This time, well…Something terrible happened to the dough when we tried to flip it over. Mandie went to the store and bought french bread pizzas instead.Image
