Health Insurance 0
Arghhh!!!
The company we work for has decided that they are no longer going to provide a group health insurance plan. So now we must look for individual plans, which is becoming a serious pain in the ass! It’s even more crucial for Amanda due to her pre-existing conditions. The state of Florida has provisions that will guarantee her coverage, but it won’t be cheap. Basically she can’t continue to afford to work at this company (Yes, she is actively looking for other employment
). I have a problem with this whole situation as well, as part of my employment agreement was that they pay for my health insurance. There’s been no mention of how they are going to compensate me for this. It’s also not helping the company in any way, as people are realizing they will need to spend $200-500/mo for an individual plan (especially the smokers), they’re starting to think about looking for another job, and not giving a damn about the job they do now.
This does however give me an opportunity to take advantage of the new HSA plans available. It looks like I might sign up with Humana (I think that’s who Amanda might get as well). Right now I’m researching the benefits of having the HSA (Health Savings Account) with Humana (who uses Chase to manage the account) vs using another account holder like HSA Bank or Sterling HSA. This is not something I’m having fun researching.
